Polyamides are a semi-crystalline polymer family with a chain structure consisting of amide groups (CO-NH). These polymers are formed from a condensation polymerization reaction between a diacid and a diamine. Polyamides are milky in color.
In a general classification, polyamides are divided into two categories: • Natural (such as silk, wool) • Synthetic (nylons, aramids)
Polyamides are also classified structurally into two categories:
Aliphatic Polyamides:
Aromatic Polyamides:
Semi-Aromatic Polyamides:
Since polyamides are moisture-absorbent, they should be stored in dry environments. They should also be kept in environments where there are no acids nearby.
